We needed something portable that could actually handle a full day of mixed exams without dying on us, and the 90-plus minutes of continuous scanning on this unit covers the morning rush pretty comfortably—though we usually have a second battery charged anyway for the afternoon. It weighs about 5.5 kg, which is manageable for moving between rooms, and the 1TB hard drive means we're not constantly offloading studies.
imaging suite has PSH harmonic and iClear speckle suppression, which basically cleans up the noise on abdominal scans enough that you don't have to second-guess every shadow, and iBeam stitching helps when you're trying to get a decent view of a deep cardiac window in a larger dog. That said, it's not great for tiny exotic species like birds or reptiles—the preset body marks go up to six species, but the probe selection is limited to two ports, so you'll want a dedicated linear probe for anything under 2 kg.
Most of the clinics we deal with run it for abdominal and reproductive work, and a few do the MSK mode for lameness evaluations, though the cardiac presets are decent enough for basic valvular assessment if you're not doing Doppler. The 22 body marks cover cat, dog, horse, cow, sheep, and pig, which is pretty much what we needed for mixed practice.
Lead time is usually 2-3 weeks form order, but we had one batch held up at customs for an extra week or so, so build that into your timeline. The AC input is 100-240V, so no transformer issues overseas, and the unit itself is about 47 cm across—fits on most cart tops without hanging over.
Power draw is modest enough that we've run it off a portable inverter in the field for about 45 minutes before the battery warning kicked in, which was a surprise but not a dealbreaker. One thing nobody mentions: the probe lock on teh ports is a bit stiff when new, so you'll need to seat the connector firmly or it'll drop the image mid-scan—just a tactile thing you get used to after a week.
