Basically it works by sending a 0.5MHz broadband signal—give or take 10%—through the calcaneus, and what it does is measure BUA, SOS, and OI to give you a composite bone index. We typically pair it with Windows XP through 10, so it's pretty much plug-and-play for most labs that haven't upgraded their OS yet.
You're looking at about 25 seconds per scan, which is faster than a lot of the DEXA units we've handled, and it's a full-dry method with that oil capsule probe that does automatic signal search. One thing buyers don't always think about is the humidity range—30 to 70% relative, so if your storage is too damp you'll need a dehumidifier.

We've seen hospitals use this for pediatric screening from age 0 up to geriatric populations at 100 years, though the real sweet spot is the 5 to 80 range where the normative data is strongest. The interface switches between Chinese and English, and we've found that most researchers prefer the English layout for data export.
And host is 13kg at 645 by 330 by 360mm, so it's actually easier to move around than you'd expect from something with that kind of signal processing onboard. Keep it away from direct AC drafts though—the 220V ± 10% at 50Hz can be touchy if your line votage fluctuates hard during peak hours.
