The cross-linked polyethylene insulation is what gives it that thermal edge over standard PVC, which basically means it won't soften or deform under sustained load at that temperature range. They run two insulation thicknesses depending on gauge, 0.76mm for the smaller stuff from 30AWG up to 20AWG and then it jumps to 1.14mm for the thicker conductors.
4/0 is about as big as they make it in this UL3271 construction, which gives us enough overhead for most motor leads and power distribution inside equipment.
