We’ve been sourcing these OM2 patch cords for about two years now, and they’re pretty much the default for any new multimode install we do. What makes it worth buying is the consistency—ceramic ferrules aren’t just a spec on paper, you can feel teh alignment when you click them in, and we’ve had almost zero field failures from poor termination.
Insertion loss is spec’d at ≤0.3dB at 850nm (give or take the ±30nm tolerance), and we’re routinely seeing around 0.2dB on our own OLTS checks. Return loss ≥35dB is fine for most data center runs—it’s not highest you’ll find for single-mode, but for OM2 it’s where it needs to be. You’ll want UPC connectors if you care about that number; APC gives you a tighter reflection floor but adds complexity.

We usually order the 3.0mm diameter jacket in PVC for indoor risers—LSZH is a better choice if you’re running through plenums or have fire code concerns. Orange jacket is standerd for multimode, and it’s actually easier to spot in a crowded patch panel than the yellow single-mode stuff. But confirm the color if you’re mixing vendors, it’s not always the exact same shade.

The 62.5/125 OM1 variant is still used for some legacy gear, but 90% of our orders are 50/125 OM2. SC and LC are the connectors we see most often—ST is basically obsolete for new builds in our market, though we do keep a few for older distribution frames. Sterile poly bag packaing works fine if you’re racking them immidiately, but ask about bulk spools if you’re terminating in the field (usually 500m or so).

One thing that caught us off guard early on: the storage tempearture range of -40°C to +85°C means they’re fine in unheated warehouses, but the operating range is -10°C to +70°C. That matters if your patch panels sit in an unconditioned enclosure or near a ceiling vent in summer. We lost a batch that way once.
Anyway, the real trick is that MOQ can vary wildly depending on connector type—LC and SC are usually in stock, but ST or APC variants often need a 50-unit minimum and a lead time of 2-3 weeks. We typically plan around that.
MOQ is 100 pairs per connector type and length, but we can flex a bit on mixed orders if you reach out.
Yes, we include test reports showing ≤0.3dB insertion loss and ≥35dB return loss per batch, and individual reports are available on request.
We can adjust lengths within 1-50 meters and offer custom jacket colors, though orange is standard. Minimum order for custom specs is 500 pairs.
Each cable is individually poly-bagged to prevent dust and scratches during shipping, so you get clean connectors right out of the box.
Standard lead time is 7-10 business days after order confirmation and deposit, but we can expedite to 5 days if stock is available.
