What really makes it worth buying is the 80,000 A-scans per second speed—it cuts scan time enough that patient movement artifacts are basically a non-issue. We've been running ours for about eight months now, and the 5μm axial optical resolution is consistent across every test we've done. It weighs 30.5kg and measures 532×360×540mm—not something you'll be moving around daily, but it fits on a standerd cart. Power requrement are 100-240V AC, 50/60Hz, so it works anywhere without a transformer. We usually have stock, but confirm lead time if you need it fast; sometimes it's 20 days or so.
One thing nobody mentions is that the spectral domain architecture means you get better signal-to-noise than time-domain systems, but it's more sensitive to vibration during scanning. We had to put ours on a slightly sturdier table than the one it came with. Also, the field of view is 45°, which is fine for most retinal work but not ideal for widefield imaging—you'll want a different device for that.
It ships in a single crate with foam inserts, and power cord is included (standard IEC C13). The SLD source has a typical lifespan of 10,000 hours or so, but we haven't had to replace ours yet. No COA is included by default, but you can request one for an extra fee—we did, and it matched the spec sheet within tolerance.
