Basically, we've gone with the CL-7-27 because its flat wire form factor fits the tight raceway constraints we've been fighting, and the parallel or plum-shaped core arrangement gives us flexibility for the next batch—the tensile strength at ≥12.5 MPa and elongation ≥180% tell me it won't crack during the pull-through, which has been an issue with cheaper PVC-sheathed stuff we tried last quarter.
It's 300/500V or 450/750V depending on the build, and we're specifying the 0.75mm² to 2.5mm² cross-sections for the sensor harnesses; the volume resistivity at ≥1.0×10⁸ Ω·m is better than reagent grade for this, and the dielectric strength at ≥18 MV/m means our company can push the insulation harder without breakdown in the high-humidity zones we've been seeing.
Also, oxygen index at ≥26% and thermal stability at ≥50 minutes at 200°C (usually we test at 180°C for 30 minutes, but this gives margin) mean it's suited for LSOH environments, though I wouldn't spec it for direct flame exposure—that's not what this is for, and the CE and CCC marks back up the compliance for the European and Chinese installations we're juggling right now.
One thing that caught me: the working temperture range of -40°C to 150°C is wider than the typical -20°C to 105°C we see on most PVC cables, so it should hold up in teh outdoor junction boxes during the winter freeze, and the sheath materail is PVC, which is what it is—it's not the most flexible at low temps, but the stranded copper conductor helps a bit with that, and we've got the COA from the suplier confirming the elongation at break ≥180% on this lot.
We usually have stock on the 1.5mm² variant, but confirm lead time for the 2.5mm² with the plum-shaped cores—it's about 20 days or so form order, and the MOQ is 500 meters per spec, which is fine given our projected usage for the next three months; I've already checked the TDS and it lists the oxygen index at 28% for this batch, so that's a nice bump over the minimum.
