Basically needed something that could handle the full range form -54°C up to 649°C without losing seal integrity — the 316L option should cover most of our corrosive fluid lines, though we're also running at about 4800 PSI in the main loop (which is comfortably under the 6000 PSI max), so that checks out.

What sealed it was the dual ferrule connection system, and we've had good experience with that design on smaller fittings — it just doesn't leak the way some threaded joints do after thermal cycling. The manufacturing process is forged then CNC machined, which gives a denser grain structure than casting, and for the high-vibration sections near the compressor skid that actually matters. We'll probably buy the 1/2" size for most branch lines, with a few of the 1" welded flanges for the main manifold — but we're still checking lead time on those since they're less common, usually 20 days or so. Also, the suface finish is as-forged or machined, nothing polished, so if you had aesthetic requrement for a clean room this wouldn't be your first choice.

MOQ is 100 pieces for standard sizes, and we've got about 70 of the 304 unions in the 1/4" range already in stock from a previous over-order, so we'll batch this with that to hit the minimum (check with procurement on the exact count). The ASME pressure rating gives a tighter tolerance than some of the generic import stuff we tested last year — those failed around 5200 PSI, but these should hold to 5500 or so before the ferrule starts to deform. TUV certification means the paperwork will satisfy our auditor without extra back-and-forth, which saves about a week in review time.

One thing I didn't think to ask about initially was the thread pitch on the NPT versions — turns out the standdard items come with 1/8" to 1" in both NPT and BSP, but you need to specify at order otherwise they default to NPT. Also, the COA includes HPLC-level traceability on the alloy composition, which isn't required for our gas lines but will satisfy the new plant standard next quarter.

For the high-tempearture zones, the stainless tubing undergoes a stress-relief anneal after CNC machining, which is a detail that wasn't on spec sheet but came up when I asked the manufacturer directly — it reduces the risk of grain boundary corrosion when you're near the 649°C ceiling. We usually have stock on the 304 grade, but 316L is a 30-day lead from order, so factor that into the project timeline.
