It's pretty much designed for granite, marble, and engineered stone edge processing, but honestly, it's not great for very soft stones like sandstone because the diamond segments can tear rather than bush hammer the surfce.
The Frankfurt shape with that aluminum base handles continuous edge work well on portable grinders and hand-held routers, and what it does is let you go form coarse grit (like 30#) through to fine polishing using the metal bond for initial passes and resin bond for finishing — most buyers I've dealt with prefer the metal bond for granite since it cuts faster.
