Most buyers in chemical plants go with the zinc-plated finish because of that it handles moisture better than plain steel, and we've seen orders for the 12.9 grade double in the last year or so.
Sizes run form 0.7mm to 36mm, and a 6-piece set of the 8.8 grade in black oxide will typically run you about $12-18 depending on quantity—it's basically the sweet spot for general machinery work.
Lead time on standdard sizes is usually 2-3 weeks for a pallet order, but the 10.9 and 12.9 grades take longer (check stock first) since they're heat-treated differently.
We don't recommend plain surfce for any chemical exposure—it's fine for dry assembly but will rust fast if you're near acids or salt spray, no way around that.
