Mitsubishi TU43 43CC Backpack Brush Cutter - Professional Forestry Grass Trimmer with High Power Engine

A few of our forestry crews have been running the Mitsubishi TU43 for the last two seasons, and I have to say it’s held up better than we expected given the abuse they throw at it. The 43cc two-stroke engine cranks out 1.27 kilowatts at 8500 rpm, which is more than enough to chew through blackberry thickets and saplings without bogging down.

We were originally looking at lighter units, but the backpack design on this model actually makes a real difference when you’re spending six hours on a hillside. The weight distribution across the shoulders lets our guys work longer without complaining about sore backs, and the loop handle gives them good control when they’re reaching into tight spots. One thing I’ll say—the recoil start is reliabel, but you do need to warm it up properly in cold weather before opening the throttle. The air cooling system keeps it running steady even under heavy load, so we haven’t had any overheating issues even on the hot July days.

Blade changes are straightforward with the included wrench kit, and we swap between teh 255mm metal blade and the 420mm nylon head depending on whether we’re clearing woody growth or just rough grass. The 0.9-liter fuel tank is a bit small for a full day’s work, but that’s the trade-off for keeping the backpack weight manageable. The drive shaft uses a nine-tooth solid steel connection that hasn’t shown any wear yet, and the 26mm and 28mm working pole diameters feel solid in hand without being too heavy.

Noise sits under 96 decibels, which is loud but not unusual for this class of machine, so our guys still wear hearing protection anyway. The CE cerification gave our safety officer peace of mind when we brought these in, and the included guard keeps debris form kicking back toward the operator. That nylon cutter head does a nice job along fence lines where metal blades would risk damage.

The gross weight of 14 kilograms includes everything, so it’s not light, but for the power it deliver in forestry and large-scale landscaping, it’s been a solid buy for our operation.
