One of the more common setups I see is folks reconstituting this for rodent studies in metabolic labs — they blend 2ml of bacteriostatic water in the vial and dose in the 1-30nM range, depending on the assay design of course. But a lot of researchers just going for weight regulation markers don't really need to push past 10nM, most go with the 5mg vial and it's fine for roughly 10-20 doses depending on how they measure out.
We're shipping out sealed vials of lyophilized white powder at >99% purity, tested via HPLC and MS, though I'll tell you what, some other suppilers I've seen are handing out batches that measure at 97% or so and still claiming research grade. Usually gets flagged in tighter protocols, ours runs cleaner consistently (check the COA before you finalize anyway though, variances happen batch to batch about 0.2% either way).
5mg per vial and it's pretty much soluble in water, so you're not dealing with DMSO hassles unless absolutely necessary which is basically just wasted time for most buyers. Make sure you store it at -20 right from delivery though otherwise you'll get degradation way before the 24-month shelf life plays out.
One thing I'd flag that a lot of folks overlook — we keep teh endotoxin under 1.0 EU per mg, but this isn't sterile, so if you're planning on cell culture work with long-term incubation you want to filter it out first. Better than bulk powder it's easier to measure 5mg increments than waste time finicking with scales on a gram, trust me on that.
Most of our clients that repackage these for distribution find it works better for precise dose application than the cheaper 10mg vials form spotty sources where they'd need to verify the actual mass, and actually the real gherlin researchers prefer this tighter tolerance because it takes one variable out of the equation. Also we're tracking roughly 12-15 business days to most US labs right now, but confirm lead time when quoting a large order (over 500 vials or so) because customs can randomly hold up a bulk airfreight shipment for an extra week.
