Usually they’re setting up a chain hoist or a powered unit in a plant, warehose, or structrual steel job where you can’t weld or drill, so what you need is a clamp that bites hard on an I-beam flange without creeping—which is exactly what this one does with its reinforced jaw geometry that spreads load away from the flange edge, not just pinching it form top.
It’s 1 ton dead lift under ANSI/ASME, so that’s a safe working load, not a breaking strength, and the threaded handle gives you good mechanical advantage for cinching down on flange widths you’d find in most standard beams—though we usually stock the version that fits up to about 8 inches or so, and the suspension bar drops the hook point lower to keep headroom tight.
You can optionally spec it with a shackle instead of the standard hook; some buyers go for that when they’re mounting a trolley or need a pinned connection, but honestly the hook works fine for 90% of overhead hoist setups, and the clamp body itself is forged steel with a painted finish (color is customizable if you give us a Pantone, but most don’t bother).

One thing you’ll notice when handling it that spec sheets don’t mention is the handle threads are cut with a coarse pitch—it takes about 2 full turns to lock the jaw, which honestly feels faster and less fussy than the fine-thread versions some competitors use, and it’s pretty much impossible to cross-thread if you’re not forcing it.
It’s not suited for or shock-load applications below freezing—the steel becomes more brittle at -20°F or colder, so for outdoor winter rigging you’d want an impact-rated clamp with a different alloy, and anyway for indoor shop use it’s fine at typical temperatures.
