You don't want to be passing contamination from one sample to the next, and flaming loops in a Bunsen burner is slow and inconsistent—plus it leaves a mess of carbon residue. Infrared heat does the job in 5 to 7 seconds at a steady 825°C, give or take 25°C, which is hot enough to ash whatever is on that loop without splatter.

So we test every unit before it ships, running a full heat-up cycle to confirm it hits temperture within 15 minutes, and we log the actual peak temp for that serial number. Batch consistency is solid because the heating element and controller are matched in production, not just pulled from bins.

The BCS-800A model takes tools up to 15mm diameter with a 140mm heating zone, while the 800B handles bigger loops or forceps up to 35mm (the heating area is shorter at 100mm though). Both have stainless steel housings that won't rust in a damp lab, and they weigh about 1kg and 1.3kg respectively.

One limitation: the heating chamber is only about 15mm wide inside on the 800A, so you can't fit a big straight wire or a large spatula in there—the 800B is better for that, but still not meant for full instrument bodies. It's designed for loops, needles, and small forceps tips, basically.
