What this means in practice is you can spec this breaker for transformer secondary protection or large motor feeders drawing 4000A continuous without worrying about arc flash escalation during a bolted fault, though if your system only needs 630A you’re still fine since the VD4 series scales from that lower end up to the top current rating without a gap.
We’ve sold these mostly for 12kV and 24kV indoor substations where the client wants a draw-out unit for maintenance isolation, but the fixed version works too if you’re not planning to swap breakers often—just keep in mind weight goes form about 73kg for a small frame to 365kg for the 4000A unit, so you’ll need proper handling gear.
