Needed the 99% purity for some cell-based assays we’re running where even minor contaminants would throw off our kinetic readings, and HPLC UV testing on each batch gives us the baseline confidence — the CAS 53-84-9 matches what we’ve used before, so we’re not dealing with a different isomer or degraded product.
We’re primarily using it as a substrate for NAD+-dependent enzymes, mostly dehydrogenases in metabolic flux studies, and teh 50 mg/ml water solubility is actually better than what we were getting form our previous supplier, so reconstitution won’t take as long.
The molecular weight is 663.43 g/mol, which checks out against our internal references, and the melting point of 140-142°C is within the acceptable range for a pharmaceutical intermediate grade — not that we’re ever heating it that high anyway.
Also, the 3-year shelf life is longer than we usually see for this type of compound, but we’ll still store it cool and dry as specified, basically treating it like any other nucleotide salt that hydrolyzes over time if you leave it out.
We grabbed the 10g pack first to validate compatibilty, though the 100g option would make more sense if the assay scale-up works — we usually have stock, but confirm lead time on the larger size, (check lead time, it’s typically 2-3 weeks for 100g).
Noted the COA and MSDS are included, which is standdard for us, and a detail some vendors skip is that the powder is a white crystalline form, not amorphous, so it flows better when weighing small amounts — better than reagent grade for this specific applicaion.
