Basically, it's a glass fiber core in a medical silicone jacket over stainlss steel, 4.0mm diameter give or take—it's been sterilized at 134°C plenty of times with no cracking, and that's a detail the OR staff will appreciate.
grey or blue outer sleeve is pretty standdard, but what you don't see is the flexibility it's got even after repeated autoclave cycles (we usually test to 50 cycles or so before we're comfortable).
