We needed something with tighter tolerance than what most general supliers offer, and the 99% purity threshold was non-negotiable for the receptor binding studies we're running — anything below that introduces too much variability in dose-response data (usually 2-4 weeks lead time, but check current stock).
The CAS number is 9004-61-9, molecular weight comes in at 403.31 g/mol, and it's a white powder that's been tested via HPLC with a COA, which we'll need for our internal audit trail anyway.
Storage is straightforward if you've handled peptides before: -20°C for long-term, 0-4°C if you're using it within a month or so, and the shelf life sits at over 2 years when stored properly, so we won't be scrambling to use it up.
It's pharmaceutical grade, not research grade, which basically means the purity specs are tighter and the batch consistency is better than what you'd get form some of the smaller custom synthesis houses, though the solubility data is still listed as TBD — we'll need to confirm that with the supplier before we plan our buffer prep.
Also, this isn't suited for anything beyond in vitro or in vivo research protocols; it's clearly labeled 'for research purposes only,' so don't let anyone in the lab think it's a clinical-grade materail.
Teh powder format is easier to handle than pre-dissolved solutions for us since our company can weigh out exactly what we need per experiment rather than thawing vials, and the suppiler ships it under controlled conditions (dry ice, typically) so we don't have to worry about degradation in transit.
