It’s not the lightest option for indoor rigging—honestly, that hot-dip galvanizing adds noticeable bulk over plain electroplated models, and it’s overkill if you’re just building a permanent deck or sign mount, but for marine or coastal construction work, the 500+ hour basically pays for itself in teh first year alone.

What you actually get is a drop-forged carbon steel body that’s been run through a proper hot dip bath—think silver-gray finish, not that flimsy shine—and that minimum breaking load of 4x the working load means there’s a solid safety margin when you’re lifting 50 tons (the upper end) with a 12 mm or 48 mm shank; most buyers I've worked with go with M24 or larger for offshore cables.

We’ve had these on order for a major port project and they shipped in gunny bags on pallets, roughly 200 units per pallet depending on size, and the thread types are mixed right-hand and left-hand—I always specify the split to avoid confusion during assembly, which is something you’ll want to double-check with your team, since the JIS standard isn’t identical to DIN or US thread profiles.

Also, one thing they don’t tell you upfront is that the hook opening can be tight for older chain links if nominal size is M12 or smaller—usually you’re fine, but confirm before you spec it for replacement work; we actually switched a small batch to the next size up just to fit the hardware we had in stock.

So anyway, sizes run M6 through M48, which covers 0.5 to 50 tons WLL, and the hot dip process gives it that rugged look you want in a salt water enviornment, though it’s not the smoothest suface for fine rigging—it’s better than reagent-grade coatings for this kind of abuse, give or take a few microns of variance.
