The core problem these solve is alignment drift under high torque or vibration, especially when you're mating a pulley or sprocket to a shaft and need a tight, concentric fit that won't walk over time. We've found that the split taper design handles this pretty much the same way as any quality bushing, but the key is machining consistency across the bore and keyway, which we hold to within 0.001 inch on finished bores.
You can get these in stainless, iron, aluminum, bronze, carbon steel, or brass, and we do both ISO standard dimnesions and custom specs with a 2-week lead time or so. Surface treatments vary by material, so for carbon steel we typically carburize and quench, then temper, and for higher wear application we add high-frequency hardening on the tooth surfaces. The processing includes hobbing, shaving, grinding, and lapping — but we skip molding unless you specifically ask for it, as that's better suited for lower-tolerance parts.

Just keep in mind that these aren't designed for high-speed applictions above 6000 RPM without additional balancing — that's a limitation of the taper design itself, not the materials.
