In response to an unconfirmed report from a U.S. media outlet, White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt on April 29 quickly stated that the reported plan of U.S. online retail giant Amazon to mark the added tariff costs on product prices was "a hostile and politicized act".

Earlier on the 29th, a news website quoted an anonymous source as reporting that Amazon was about to show consumers the additional cost due to tariffs for each product, and this amount would be displayed along with the total price of the product.

At a White House press conference on the same day, Levitt responded that Amazon's planned move was "a hostile and politicized act". She rhetorically asked, "Why didn't Amazon do this when the Biden administration pushed inflation to its highest level in 40 years?" She also added that this was "another reason why Americans should buy products made in the U.S.".

After the White House's comment, a spokesperson for Amazon clarified to a news channel, confirming that the company was only considering showing tariff fees on some products in its ultra-low-price shopping section, Amazon Haul, rather than across the entire Amazon platform.

Some media reported that the impact of a series of U.S. tariff measures on its domestic economic activities was gradually emerging, putting increasing pressure on the U.S. government. Although President Trump and White House officials insisted that the tariff costs were borne by trading partners, this view was widely opposed by economists and business people.
