Recently, the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer stated in an interview that it is "foolish" not to engage with China and emphasized that the UK should maintain good economic relations with China.

The Chancellor revealed that earlier this year, she visited China to participate in the China-UK Economic and Financial Dialogue, aiming to enhance the operational capabilities of UK financial service companies in China. "These arrangements clearly serve the national interests of the UK. I'll approach trade negotiations or financial dialogues with any country in the world with this attitude," she said.

Next week, the Chancellor is scheduled to travel to the US to attend a series of meetings including the G20 Finance Ministers' Meeting. She will also meet with the US Treasury Secretary to discuss a trade agreement between the UK and the US.

When asked about her view on engaging with China, the Chancellor responded, "China is the world's second-largest economy. I think it's extremely foolish not to engage with it. This is the stance of the current government."

The Chancellor also stated that the UK should build a deeper partnership with China rather than creating new obstacles.

She added that she supports the listing of Chinese fast-fashion company Shein on the London Stock Exchange and is also willing to take electric vehicles made in China.

"I think many of us have probably taken (electric) taxis in London. They are produced in the UK and owned by a Chinese company. I think it's a good thing for London to have these electric taxis. They are also very popular among taxi drivers," she said.
