Poland Seeks Nuclear Protection from France and the US

According to a report on the 18th, Poland's President Duda said in an interview that Poland should seek the protection of France's nuclear deterrence while continuing to strive to obtain US nuclear weapons.

Duda said, "I think we can accept both options. These two ideas are neither contradictory nor mutually exclusive."

When talking about the issue of whether the US will withdraw troops from Eastern Europe, Duda said, "There is absolutely no reason to think that the US military presence in Poland will decrease." Based on his meetings with US President Trump and US Defense Secretary Hagseth, the US military presence on NATO's eastern flank "will instead be strengthened".

In March this year, Duda said that he had proposed that the US deploy nuclear warheads on Polish territory to deter Russia and curb its "future aggression". Polish Prime Minister Tusk said in a speech in parliament the same month that Poland is having a "serious dialogue" with France about being included under its "nuclear umbrella".

According to the Polish government budget, Poland's military spending will account for 4.7% of GDP in 2025, the highest proportion among NATO member states.
