UK Chancellor Urges European Nations to Increase Defense Spending

On February 25, it was reported that the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer stated that other European countries must follow the UK's lead and increase defense spending.

The Chancellor wrote, 'This is a once - in - a - generation moment for Europe. All of us must step up and do more in terms of defense.'

The Chancellor said that in the coming days, at the G20 meeting in South Africa, she will discuss with European finance ministers 'the importance of security and defense to our economies and how we can work together to support them.'

The Chancellor also said, 'If we are to protect our borders, we need to ensure that our defense industry is manufacturing and building the equipment and capabilities we need. We need to have a modern military at home, and these weapons can also be sold to other countries.'
