The US White House said on February 20 that US President Trump will hold talks with French President Macron, who is visiting the US, and UK Prime Minister Starmer on February 24 and 27 respectively to discuss issues such as the Ukraine crisis.
US National Security Advisor Waltz said at a White House press conference that day that the US welcomes more assistance from Europe to Ukraine. "As I told my (European) counterparts, if you want a bigger seat at the negotiation table, come to the negotiation with more."
Waltz said that one - third of NATO countries still have not reached the target of spending 2% of their GDP on defense, which "is unacceptable". Waltz reiterated Trump's previous demand that NATO members should increase their defense spending to 5% of their GDP.
Macron confirmed on social media that day that he will travel to the US in a few days to hold talks with Trump. He also said that Trump "has brought uncertainty to allies".
The UK Prime Minister's Office previously said that Starmer will travel to the US next week to meet with Trump to discuss deepening the special relationship between the two sides in trade, investment and security. According to another report, Starmer intends to propose to Trump to send about 30,000 European troops to Ukraine for peace - keeping, and the US needs to provide military support. The US has said it will not send troops to Ukraine.
