Accidental Explosion at Fireworks Display in Guangdong, China Leaves Multiple Injured

A sudden accident occurred on February 13th at a fireworks display site in Rupian Village, Yunfu City, Guangdong Province. The incident happened when some villagers accidentally ignited a large quantity of firecrackers on the makeshift tower, leaving multiple people injured.

According to local authorities, three people were injured in the accident, but their lives are not in danger. The site video shows several villagers standing on a 10-meter-high bamboo framework, with one villager lighting a string of firecrackers that suddenly ignited and caused the entire tower to explode.

The video also shows people jumping down from the tower after being caught off guard by the sudden explosion. Some villagers were seen rolling around in mud, possibly trying to put out the flames or seeking relief from their injuries.

A villager who witnessed the accident told a reporter that it happened on February 13th afternoon and five people were taken to hospital afterwards. Three of them had severe injuries and were later transferred to a hospital in Yunfu City.

The witness, who wished to remain anonymous, said that one villager was holding a string of firecrackers and lit it too quickly, causing the firecrackers to detach and ignite other nearby ones. The highest point of the tower was around 20 meters, but fortunately, it was built on soft ground, which reduced the severity of the fall.

The authorities at Yunfu City government told a reporter that the accident was caused by improper operation by the villagers. The injured have been receiving medical treatment and their lives are not in danger.

According to local customs, firework displays are an important part of folk traditions in some regions of Guangdong Province. In Yunfu area, for example, such displays typically begin at around 4 pm, with a makeshift tower constructed using bamboo frameworks, reaching heights of over 10 meters. The activity is believed to bring good luck and wealth to participants.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of proper safety measures and precautions when engaging in traditional activities like firework displays.
