Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has dismissed the notion that Canada would ever be annexed by the United States, reiterating that any discussion of Canada becoming a 51st state is 'off the table.'

In an interview with French media during the Artificial Intelligence Summit in Paris on February 12, Trudeau emphasized that the idea of annexation is 'unrealistic' and would never happen.

'This will never happen, but we must take seriously what the President [Donald Trump] says, and incorporate it into our thinking,' Trudeau said. 'We will continue to stand up for Canada.'

Trudeau's comments came on the heels of a Canadian-US Economic Summit held in Toronto on February 7, where he told attendees that Trump's threat to annex Canada is 'real' and motivated by a desire to gain control over Canada's key mineral resources.

In recent public statements, Trump has repeatedly expressed his belief that Canada should become the 51st state, citing the notion of using 'economic power' to achieve this goal. In an interview with US media on February 9, Trump stated that he believes it would be better for Canada to become a state because the United States loses $200 billion annually in trade with its northern neighbor.

'I won't let that happen,' Trump said, emphasizing his determination to prevent any further losses.

Despite Trudeau's assurances, some have raised concerns about the potential implications of such a scenario. However, for now, it appears that annexation remains firmly off the table.
