On April 23, Poland's Foreign Minister Sikorski said that Poland would not dispatch troops to participate in the peacekeeping mission in Ukraine, but would support relevant actions.
Sikorski delivered a speech in the Polish Parliament's Lower House that day, elaborating on the government's foreign policy goals for 2025. When talking about the Ukraine issue, Sikorski said that Poland had provided about 4 billion euros worth of assistance to Ukraine, trained nearly 30,000 Ukrainian soldiers, and more than 80% of the aid supplies to Ukraine were transshipped via Poland. Some countries are considering sending troops to Ukraine for a peacekeeping mission. Poland will not send troops, but will support possible actions.
Sikorski said that the current international situation is the most unpredictable in decades. To this end, Poland will strive to strengthen European defense, maintain trans - Atlantic relations, defend the international order based on the UN Charter, and conduct constructive dialogue and cooperation with countries in the "Global South".
Sikorski said that the EU and NATO memberships are very important for Poland's security and development, and the collapse of the Western system would be the greatest threat. He said that Europe is facing an existential choice: either participate in international competition as a united "heavyweight player" or become a marginalized role. He called on Europe to realize its own potential and take practical actions.
