According to information, South Korea's Constitutional Court is expected to make a ruling on President Yoon Suk-yeol's impeachment case in the near future. The floor leader of the ruling People Power Party in South Korea said on the 16th that regardless of the verdict, the party will accept it and urged the largest opposition Democratic Party to make the same statement.

The floor leader of the People Power Party, Kwon Sung-dong, held a press conference in the National Assembly on the 16th and talked about topics related to the presidential impeachment case. He said, "Our party's official stance is to accept the ruling of the Constitutional Court." According to him, the ruling of South Korea's Constitutional Court is the final judgment, and once the result is out, it will be binding on everyone.

A few days ago, Kwon Young-se, the head of the emergency response committee and interim leader of the People Power Party, also said at a press conference that the party will accept the ruling of the Constitutional Court.

When asked whether Yoon Suk-yeol should publicly state his acceptance of the result before the ruling, Kwon Sung-dong said that Yoon Suk-yeol had expressed his acceptance during the last debate on the case held by the Constitutional Court.

At the same time, Kwon Sung-dong urged Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party, to publicly declare that he will abide by the ruling. According to Kwon Sung-dong, Lee Jae-myung has not made a clear statement so far, which is intended to "threaten" the Constitutional Court. If the Democratic Party agrees, the People Power Party is willing to issue a joint statement with it to accept the ruling result.

On December 14, 2024, the South Korean National Assembly passed a motion to impeach Yoon Suk-yeol and submitted the impeachment case to the Constitutional Court for trial. The trial process can last up to 180 days. The Constitutional Court held the last debate on the case on February 25 and is expected to make a ruling later this month. According to past cases, the sentencing date is usually announced two or three days in advance.

According to relevant South Korean laws, if the Constitutional Court rejects the impeachment case, Yoon Suk-yeol will immediately resume his presidential duties until May 2027. If the Constitutional Court approves the impeachment case, Yoon Suk-yeol will become the second South Korean president to be removed from office after Park Geun-hye. At that time, South Korea must hold a new presidential election within 60 days.
