On the evening of March 14 local time, a post on a social media platform stated that the leader of the extremist organization "Islamic State" (ISIS) was killed in Iraq.
It was also mentioned that another ISIS member was killed at the same time, and the operation was completed under the coordination of the Iraqi government and relevant departments in the Kurdish region.
Earlier on the same day, the Iraqi Prime Minister announced that under the leadership of the Iraqi National Intelligence Service, the Iraqi Joint Operations Command cooperated with the international coalition forces and successfully killed Abdullah Makki Muslih al-Rifai (alias "Abu Khudayjah"), the deputy leader of the "Islamic State".
The "Islamic State", fully known as the "Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham" (formerly known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, abbreviated as ISIS), is an extreme terrorist organization active in Iraq and Syria.
In October 2019, the US military carried out a special operation to capture and kill the ISIS leader Baghdadi. Baghdadi was listed as the top terrorist by most countries in Europe, America and the Middle East. Since then, the leadership of ISIS has changed several times, including Abu Hussein al-Qurashi, Abu Hafs al-Hashimi al-Qurashi and others. On December 20, 2024, the US Central Command said it had carried out a precision strike on Abu Yusuf, the leader of the "Islamic State" in Deir ez-Zor province, Syria, resulting in the death of two ISIS members, including Abu Yusuf.
