France to Transfer All Military Bases in Senegal by End of Year

On March 7, the French embassy in Senegal issued a statement saying that France transferred two military bases to the Senegalese government on the same day and plans to hand over the remaining three military bases to Senegal before the end of the year.

The statement said that on February 28, the first meeting of the France - Senegal Joint Committee was held, and the decision to transfer these two military bases was made. The two military facilities and housing transferred on the 7th are located on Marechal and Saint - Exupéry streets in the east of the capital Dakar.

France has five military bases in Senegal. The statement said that France plans to transfer the remaining three military bases to the Senegalese government by the end of this year, including the main base in the Wakam district of Dakar.

It is reported that currently about 350 French soldiers are stationed in Senegal.

Senegalese President Faye proposed in his New Year's speech at the end of last year that France should withdraw its troops from Senegal starting in 2025.
