On February 23 local time, the UN Secretary - General António Guterres issued a statement, pointing out that February 24 marks the third anniversary of the outbreak of the Russia - Ukraine conflict. He once again reiterated the urgency of achieving a just, sustainable and comprehensive peace.
In the statement, Guterres said that 80 years after the end of World War II, the Russia - Ukraine conflict not only poses a serious threat to peace and security in Europe but also shakes the basic principles and core foundation of the United Nations.
Guterres said, "After three years of death and destruction, I once again call for an urgent de - escalation of the situation and an immediate end to hostilities. I welcome all efforts aimed at achieving a just and inclusive peace. The United Nations stands ready to support these efforts."
